A word about ice boxes, chilli bins as they call them
in New Zealand or Coolers as they call them in USA. There are two types
of ice boxes that dominate the ice box market, polyethylene ice boxes
and fibreglass ice boxes both these style of eskys have their advantages
and disadvantages. Fibreglass ice boxes have a high gloss finish, keep
ice well and are very easy to clean. The down side of these eskys are
that they damage easily and don’t have double thickness lids,
like that on most polyethylene eskys, ie on most polyethylene ice boxes
the lids are twice as thick as the walls due to the fact that most radiant
heat that melts ice enters through the top of the ice box, polyethylene
ice boxes are extremely tough and made from a similar material to wheelie
bins. Some have white food grade interiors. Others simply run the same
plastic on the outside as they do on the inside. The finish of polyethylene
ice boxes is not as good fibreglass. Techni Ice polyethylene currently
has the longest guarantee in Australia which is LIFETIME and there no
conditions attached to this ice box guarantee, we haven’t seen
another ice box fibreglass or polyethylene that carries such a rock
solid guarantee, particularly when it is backed by large international
companies such as the Techni Iice corporation who distribute their products
in 18 countries. Techni Ice boxes have one of the longest ice ratings
in the country. Along with some very use full ice box features, such
as large bung with O ring that is threaded the same as garden hose fittings
to dran away water from block ice. You can also screw a standard tap
into the bung hole if these ice boxes to use the ice box as a chilled
drink container. There are white rubbers non marking skids on Techni
Ice ice boxes and reinforced tie down points so that the ice boxes can be
securily tied to a roof rack and locked in 3 places.
